My name is Helaina, I'm the knitwear designer and creator here at Spuggy Designs. I have two wonderful little girls, who often become my main testers for any new knit patterns and yarns, and I'm originally from Sunderland but I'm now living in Surrey.
How I started....
Little Spuggy was officially started in December 2020, but has been a dream of mine since I started knitting back in November 2015.
I originally learnt to knit so I could make baby clothes for my (eldest) daughter. I soon built her a wardrobe that was cute, but had plenty of warm accessories and layers, in designs that I found simple yet unique.
Naturally, as my eldest grew and developed, so did my designs to match her personality.
After two years of running my business, it became obvious that it was no longer just a baby and child knitwear shop - with adult sized knitwear and accessories become my best sellers.
So I rebranded to 'Spuggy Designs'.
My motivation
I'm often disappointed that cardigans and jumpers from high street retailers, all used the same yarn and colours - so they all had the same look and feel - with not much choice when it comes to somthing different.
At Spuggy Designs, I work with the softest and snuggliest natural fibre yarns - which are breathable and biodegradble.
The majority of our clothes and accessories are made using soft and squidgy merino wool; however, you will also find that my colourful knits are also available use British wool, cotton and bamboo!
