A skincare routine for sensitive skin can be a pain to work out!
This is because it can be difficult for people with sensitive skin to find suitable products that also perform well!
I chose the ingredients in this product because they are less likely to cause reactions in easily irritated skin. It is impossible to predict reactions or sensitivity in advance unless you already have the information about what you react to. Let me explain the difference between sensitive skin and sensitisation.
In general, experts agree that sensitive skin is genetic, (or hereditary.) It is often characterised by feelings of heat, dryness, itching, or breakouts.
Sensitised Skin
Sensitised skin happens because of an external event, however, it can happen with products you have used for several years sometimes. I have experienced, in particular, people who have become sensitised during pregnancy, whereas they had no issues prior to becoming pregnant! It is also common after harsh treatments, such as chemical peels due to the skin barrier being damaged. The other reason for sudden sensitisation to your normal products is that your immune system develops antibodies to a substance, even one that you have been using for some time.
How I can help
On the other hand, I have had customers who have decided to ditch their current skincare and stock up on a whole range of Imago Skincare and have then suffered a reaction. In those cases, I advise stopping all applications and waiting until the reaction has fully cleared, after which, they try one product at a time, starting with a small patch test and waiting a week before trying another product. This has worked very well in the past. I always advise new customers who have very sensitive skin to try this method.
The other advantage of this is that I can sometimes identify which ingredient is causing the problems and work around it, if possible.
I can also help by looking at the products a customer can use so that I know what their skin will tolerate. Furthermore, I can create bespoke products, for example, if you are sensitive or allergic to lavender, I can make up a product without adding it to your product. I do this for a client who is not allergic or sensitised but cannot tolerate certain smells. When I make a batch of products, I simply remove enough for her and use a different blend of fragrance.
